Dr. John Barrington is a Christ-follower, thankful husband, father of three, and orthopaedic surgeon. Originally from California and educated at the University of California, the University of North Carolina, and Harvard-Massachusetts General Hospital, he is blessed with a gratifying arthroplasty practice in greater Dallas, Texas. Widely recognized as an educator, speaker, and author, he considers all of this to pale in comparison to "the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus as Lord"-Phil. 3:8.
Dr. David Mehne (bio coming soon)
Maureen Mehne, RN, moved from Southern California to the hills of Puerto Rico with her husband David in 1985. Their life in Puerto Rico was a dream come true, as Maureen had the opportunity to live in a Spanish-speaking culture, serve as a teacher, lead Awana (a children’s ministry), establish a women’s ministry in the local fledgling church and raise three children bilingually.
In 2003, inspired by Carla Madrid, Maureen got involved in patient care at the mission hospital in Los Alcarrizos, Dominican Republic. She listened to the amazing stories of hardship, the prayers, occasional songs, and continual hope of the Gospel. The patients and family members responded with appreciation, requests for Bibles, renewal of faith, and prayers to receive Christ with lots of smiles and hugs. Maureen has treasured the opportunity to witness Christ at work in this poorest of neighborhoods as the surgical team exercises their talents and the local school flourishes. Her prayer is that the lame may walk, the spiritually blind might see as they receive the Word of God, and the school would continue to impact hundreds of young lives and their families to give them a hope and a future.
Colin Penrose is an orthopaedic surgery resident at Duke University. He first became involved in the Dominican mission in 2010 while still an undergraduate student at Stanford University. Colin then organized a trip to the D.R. for several other Stanford students who built a basketball court, a playground, and a safety wall for our partner school in Los Alcarrizos. Colin has since been on several mission trips to the Dominican and continues to be amazed at the work God has done through the hospital and school there in the community of Los Alcarrizos and the lives of the volunteers. Colin is planning on pursuing a career in Orthopaedic Surgery, and wants to continue serving the Lord as a leader of MOVE Missions with his wife, Elaine.
Elaine Penrose became involved in MOVE Missions through the work of her husband, Colin. Elaine first visited Los Alcarrizos in 2014 and immediately fell in love with the generous people and loving community there. Though she does not have the medical expertise to be of much help in the operating room, Elaine enjoys spending time at the local school, supporting the other volunteers, and getting to know the people who devote their lives to making the hospital and school thrive. Elaine supports MOVE Missions by maintaining the website and taking care of other secretarial duties, and she hopes to make many more trips to Los Alcarrizos in the future.
